MEMBERS HIGHLIGHT: TRISH BARILLAS
For the viewers at home, what does Life Coach mean? In other words, what are your responsibilities as a life coach?
As a Life Coach, or how I see myself in my practice is a Creator of Positive Change. My job is to take you as you are today and move you forward. I help clients gain clarity and insight in order to make authentic decisions, without judgment.
How did you decide to pursue coaching with your own company, Barillas Coaching?
I’ve been coaching for 13 years now. It started as a side hustle when I was building up my finances and trying to make it in New York City. I studied at NYU where I received my master’s certification in life, personal and career coaching. I always knew I wanted to go into private practice so I was always waiting for the right moment to leave my corporate job behind and take a leap of faith.
What is your morning routine?
My mornings go something like this – I wake up to my fiancé opening our blackout shade, then my kitty Mia comes to lay on my chest for her 5-minute rub whilst I gaze out the window thinking about any cool dreams I’ve had. I’m an avid dreamer. I’m not a morning person so I honor my body in taking time to awaken and start the day. I then head to the kitchen to drink a glass of water and turn on my music to start my morning hygiene. After this is all complete do I then start my postings for the media accounts I manage.
Can you name a professional highlight of 2019? 2018?
A highlight of 2019 was being the feature on the NYPost for a Love Contract that my fiancé and I had done and one I coach about on breakup retreats.
A highlight of 2018 was being a speaker on Bacardi’s Women Empowerment Series where we spoke in 5 cities to women in the Hospitality Industry. I spoke on anxiety and sold my book “A Face of Anxiety” at each event.
What do you enjoy most about your line of work?
I enjoy seeing the shift in my clients, hearing how happy they have become. This is by a far the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had. I touch so many different aspects of life so it keeps me on my toes and my creative juices flowing on the daily so it’s a win-win.
What do you like to do for fun? Hobbies?
For fun I love to dance my little heart out, whether that’s ballet class or just in my apartment. I also love to take rides on my Monster Ducati 900 in the Summer, it’s the best form of meditation I’ve ever had. Then I also go back to Guatemala and ride our horses on my Father’s farm.
What did you want to be when you grew up? How did that play out?
I wanted to be a race car driver. Clearly, I found things to keep me entertained in the speed department. I never realized how expensive of a dream that was so I choose psychology instead.
What is your current dream travel destination?
I’ve been dying to go to a dude Ranch in Montana, just riding horses all day over the mountains.
What is your favorite part about working at Thompson Square Studios?
My favorite part of TSS is the people! As an entrepreneur without a team, it’s important for me to have that sense of co-workers and work life. At TSS I know all my fellow members that share the common space, we’re like a little work family. We also can bounce ideas off each other and keep our spirits up. TSS has been the best thing to have ever happened to my business, it gave me a home.
